Best AI fitness coach apps for Apple Watch, Oura and Whoop owners (2026)

There is no single best AI fitness coach app; the right one depends on the wearable you own and what you want decided for you. If you wear a WHOOP or an Oura Ring, WHOOP Coach and Oura Advisor are built into the membership you already pay for. On Apple Watch, Athlytic and Gentler Streak are low-cost recovery guides and Bevel is the broadest tracker with a free tier, while SOMA, our app, is for women who want one daily plan that covers training and food from Apple Health, Apple Watch, Oura or Whoop data.

  • WHOOP Coach and Oura Advisor come with those memberships, but each needs its own hardware.
  • Apple Watch owners can choose from Athlytic ($29.99/year), Gentler Streak, Bevel (free tier) and SOMA, which all read Apple Health.
  • Bevel, Oura and SOMA handle food in the app; Athlytic and WHOOP mainly pull nutrition from other apps.
  • For women, Bevel, WHOOP, Oura, Gentler Streak and Athlytic offer cycle features; SOMA is designed for women and adjusts training to optional cycle and pregnancy inputs.
  • On Android, the options here are WHOOP, Oura and Welltory; the other four are Apple-only today.
Disclosure: SOMA is our app, so we have not ranked it first. Each app below gets a “best for” verdict instead of a place in a league table. Every competitor fact comes from that company’s own website, help center or app store listing, checked on 1 October 2026 and linked where it is used. If a feature or price has changed since, the linked source is the one to trust.

How did we compare these AI fitness coach apps?

We looked at seven apps that turn wearable data into training guidance and use AI somewhere in the loop: SOMA, Bevel, Athlytic, Gentler Streak, Welltory, WHOOP (with WHOOP Coach) and Oura (with Oura Advisor). We compared them on the seven things that decide whether an app fits your week: which data it reads, whether it tells you how hard to train today and why, whether it builds workouts, how it handles food, whether you can chat with an AI coach, what it offers women and around the menstrual cycle, and what it costs and runs on. Where a source does not say, the table says “not stated” rather than guessing.

Two patterns stand out. WHOOP and Oura are hardware memberships: the coach is part of what you already pay for, but you need their band or ring. The other five are software that reads data you already have, mostly through Apple Health; of those, only Welltory also runs on Android.

What is each AI fitness coach app best for?

SOMA: best for one daily plan that covers training and food

SOMA is an iPhone app built for women who train. It reads Apple Health as its hub, which covers Apple Watch, and connects directly to Oura and Whoop. Each morning a fixed set of rules turns that data into one call (Rest, Light Movement, Moderate or Push Hard) with the reason attached. AI then writes the session around your goals, recovery and equipment; gym scan rebuilds it around a room you photograph. On the food side, SOMA sets calorie and macro targets, estimates meals you type or dictate, and turns what is in your fridge into one recipe sized to the macros you have left. Cycle and pregnancy details are optional inputs that adjust training. The trade-offs: no chat, no Apple Watch app, no barcode scanner, iPhone only, and no App Store ratings yet, since it launched on 28 September 2026 (App Store). Price: a limited free plan; Premium is $19.99/month, or $155.99/year with a 3-day free trial on the yearly plan only (SOMA pricing).

Bevel: best for tracking everything, with a free tier

Bevel scores recovery, sleep, strain and stress from your Apple Watch and adds a detailed food logger (barcode, photo, text and a 6M+ food database), Strength Builder, free cycle tracking and an Apple Watch app, all on the free tier (Bevel). It reads Apple Health and connects directly to Oura, Garmin Connect and Google Health (Bevel). Bevel Pro ($14.99/month or $99.99/year) adds Bevel Intelligence, a chat coach that answers questions about your data and builds training and meal plans, plus Health Records and Biological Age (Bevel). It has been on the App Store since January 2024 with 4.8 stars from about 16,600 US ratings (App Store). We compare it point by point in SOMA vs Bevel.

Athlytic: best for low-cost recovery coaching on Apple Watch

Athlytic reads your overnight HRV and resting heart rate against your own baseline each morning, turns them into a Recovery score, and gives you a Target Exertion range for the day. It suggests what to do, for how long and how hard, and lets you build a structured workout or import a plan from a screenshot and send it to your Apple Watch. Ask Athlytic answers plain-language questions using Apple Intelligence, and its health monitor includes your menstrual cycle (App Store). It charts energy consumed and macros from Apple Health; food logging is not listed. Athlytic says everything is processed on your device (Athlytic). An Apple Watch is needed for most features. Price: $4.99/month or $29.99/year, with a 7-day free trial (Athlytic).

Gentler Streak: best for consistency over intensity

Gentler Streak is built around moving “consistently, not constantly”. Its Activity Path and Daily Readiness show how much you can take on, Go Gentler suggests anything from rest to high intensity, and guidance adjusts to your menstrual cycle phase (App Store). Daily workout suggestions are part of Premium (Gentler Streak). It was 2022 Apple Watch App of the Year and won a 2024 Apple Design Award, and all analysis happens on your iPhone with no user accounts (Gentler Streak). Nutrition and an AI chat are not part of what it describes. Price: free, with Premium at $8.99/month or $39.99/year on the App Store, which also lists family and lifetime options (App Store).

Welltory: best for stress, HRV and energy tracking

Welltory centers on heart rate variability. It connects to 1,000+ apps and devices, including Apple Watch and Oura (App Store), and can measure HRV with your phone camera, an Apple Watch or a Samsung watch. Premium adds daily Health, Battery and Stress scores, sleep, activity and workout reports and daily move goals (Welltory). Its AI Coach is a custom GPT inside ChatGPT that can write workout plans; full access needs both Welltory Premium and ChatGPT Plus (Welltory). The free version keeps 30 days of data (Welltory). It is the only app in this list besides WHOOP and Oura with an Android version (Google Play). Price: free, with Premium at $99/year on welltory.com (Welltory); the App Store lists several Premium plans.

WHOOP Coach: best if you already wear a WHOOP

WHOOP is a screenless band sold as a membership: One from $199/year, Peak from $239/year and Life from $359/year, each including the device, with a one-month free trial of Peak on a certified pre-owned band (WHOOP). The app scores Recovery from 1 to 99% and sets a daily Strain Target from it (App Store). WHOOP Coach, its generative AI coach, answers questions about your data and can build training plans from your goal, timeline, available equipment and time (WHOOP), and a Daily Outlook each morning suggests when to push and when to rest (WHOOP). Women’s Hormonal Insights are included in every tier. For food, the WHOOP Journal can auto-log macros from nutrition apps such as MyFitnessPal (WHOOP). It runs on iOS and Android (Google Play). If you want a separate plan on top of it, see our Whoop Coach alternative.

Oura Advisor: best if you already wear an Oura Ring

Oura Advisor comes with an Oura Membership, at $5.99/month or $69.99/year in the US, on top of the ring itself; new members get the first month included (Oura). Without a membership the app shows only the three daily scores, Readiness, Sleep and Activity (Oura); Readiness is the one that speaks to how hard to go, and you can open its contributors to see what moved it (Oura). Advisor uses a large language model to answer questions about your data, sends optional check-ins and remembers what you share; women’s health questions go to a custom model developed with OB-GYNs (Oura). Meals logs food from a photo or a description and labels its protein, fiber, carbs, fats, added sugars and processing level as low, moderate or high (Oura). Cycle Insights predicts periods and the fertile window from temperature trends (Oura). A workout plan builder is not part of what Oura describes. It runs on iOS and Android. If you want a plan on top of your ring data, see our Oura Advisor alternative.

How do you choose the right AI fitness coach app?

Work through these in order. Most people are down to one or two apps by the third question.

  1. Start with the wearable you own. WHOOP or Oura: try the built-in coach first, since you already pay for it. Apple Watch: Athlytic, Gentler Streak, Bevel and SOMA all read it through Apple Health. Garmin or Fitbit: Bevel connects to Garmin Connect and Google Health. Not sure which wearable suits you? See Apple Watch vs Oura vs Whoop.
  2. Decide whether you want scores or a decision. Bevel, Athlytic, WHOOP and Oura give you scores and targets to interpret. Gentler Streak and SOMA lean toward telling you what to do today. Either can work; pick the one you will actually open every morning.
  3. Decide whether food belongs in the same app. For detailed logging, Bevel is the deepest here. For a lighter read on what you ate, Oura Meals. For meal ideas sized to the macros you have left, SOMA. WHOOP and Athlytic mostly pull nutrition from other apps.
  4. Decide whether you want to chat. Bevel Intelligence, WHOOP Coach and Oura Advisor are conversational; Athlytic’s Ask Athlytic answers questions with Apple Intelligence. SOMA and Gentler Streak have no chat.
  5. Check the yearly cost. Approximate US totals for a year: Athlytic $29.99, Gentler Streak Premium $39.99, Oura membership $69.99 plus the ring, Welltory Premium $99, Bevel Pro $99.99, SOMA $155.99, WHOOP from $199 including the band. Bevel, Gentler Streak and Welltory also work on a free tier.
  6. Check your phone. On Android, choose from WHOOP, Oura and Welltory. SOMA, Bevel, Athlytic and Gentler Streak are Apple-only today.

Whether food lives in the same app as training is one of the clearest dividing lines.

If protein is the part you struggle with, our guide to high-protein meals from what’s in your fridge works with any of these apps. If the app tells you to take it easy, Low HRV: should you work out today? explains what to do instead. And if it suggests a session your gym cannot support, here is how to build a workout with the equipment you have.

What can an AI fitness coach not do?

AI answers can be wrong. Oura notes that Advisor “may occasionally generate unexpected responses” (Oura), and the same caution applies to every chat coach on this list. Treat a suggestion as a starting point, especially when it conflicts with how you feel.

Your data goes to different places. Athlytic and Gentler Streak say analysis happens on your device (Athlytic, Gentler Streak). Oura processes Advisor data in its cloud (Oura). SOMA sends data to its AI providers, Anthropic and OpenAI, only after you consent, and that data is not used to train their models; details are in our privacy policy. Read the policy of whichever app you choose.

General wellness, not medical advice. The coaching features compared here are general fitness and wellness guidance. SOMA is not a medical device and does not diagnose or treat anything. Talk to a clinician before changing training or diet around a health condition, a pregnancy or a medication.
